Bravo! The Best of Philippine Dance

"If I didn't have kids, I would be at the theater or the ballet every single night of my life." - Sarah Jessica Parker
I was treated to an evening of breathtaking and powerful performance of Ballet Philippines last Saturday night at SM Lanang Premier. I was immediately transfixed to a time where I believed in princes and princesses and when I would perform in front of relatives and friends for the crisp 100 peso bill every Christmas.

A Small Town Boy's International Feat

One thing I love about blogging is the opportunity to meet different folks from different strokes. Individuals who followed their passions and eventually carved a name for themselves. This is the story of a small town boy who will inspire students to do their best and show the rest of the world the Filipino caliber.

I was given the chance to attend a media round table discussion with Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2013 award-winner Judel Jay A. Tabsing from Panabo City National High School (PCNHS), Davao del Norte. Although this is very far from my field of communications, my presence there were because one - I am and will always be a development worker (I worked five and half years for an education project) and two - stories like these I believe deserve everyone's time and attention.

Sixteen-year old Judel bested more than 300 entries from all over the world at the recently-concluded Intel ISEF 2013 competition in Phoenix, Arizona last May 22-27, 2013. His study entitled Impatiens balsamina Leaf Extract as Potential Fungicide Against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense Tropical Race 4 Causing Fusarium Wilt of Banana won fourth award in the Plant Sciences Category.

Supermarket shopping with an "umph"

Grocery shopping just got a little better with the opening of the newest branch of SM Supermarket at SM Lanang Premier. The leading food retailer we, especially mommies, have come to love for its wide and fresh choices offers Davaoenos a little bit more.

The new SM Lanang Supermarket promises to give shoppers an all-new lifestyle with fresh trends and more choices with its personalized customer assistance, exciting promos, new products and sophisticated services. Last September 27, Davao Bloggers were given a special tour around the 5,000 square meter supermarket and introduced to us the services we have all been familiar with plus new innovations to make our supermarket shopping more comfortable and budget-friendly. Okay, Ina-Tay is loving you already.

Yokoso Tokyo Tokyo!

I am a voracious eater - it may not be obvious but people sometimes think I'm a circus act when I eat. So when Karla called out for interested bloggers for a night to sample Tokyo Tokyo, the country's number one Japanese fastfood chain's signature dishes, I immediately signed up and luckily got in. It was an invitation too good to pass. Thirty yeas after they opened their first branch at Quad Park in Makati, it is now finally here in Davao!

Beyond Breast Cancer - A Silver Lining

"Every person is a cancer survivor from day one!"

Yesterday, September 17, 2011, Mum and Ina-Tay attended the 3rd Silver Linings at Grand Regal Hotel, Davao City. Silver Linings is the educational forum slash homecoming for breast cancer survivors and the people who care about them. It is held every three years and organized by the ICanServe Foundation, an organization that "provides hope and help to women with breast cancer. It promotes early breast cancer detection through high impact information campaigns and community based screening programs. Its network of cancer survivors light the path for women with cancer towards total healing."

Please spread the word - Silver Linings on September 17th!

By now you must have become acquainted with my Mum and her battle with Breast Cancer. I've made it a point to talk about it here in my blog since it has been one of my advocacies (breastfeeding is the other) and I'm hoping to help raise awareness among women out there. After Mum completed her chemo cycle of six sessions, she is back to her old self - almost sans her right breast which was removed through mastectomy. I even envy her Halle Berry do and wished I can cut my tresses that short.
