Ina-Tay Recommends: Cetaphil Restoraderm Skin Restoring Moisturizer

If you are like me, chances are you would always be on the look out for any bad habits your little ones may have developed; your pointer finger ready to say No-No! Thank God, I haven't heard Leia utter profanity or shown behavior that would give me a heart-attack. Unfortunately, no kid is perfect. On her 18th month, I observed her love for scratching (kamot). I brushed it off because there may just be an itch that badly needed to be scratched. I started to worry when one night as I was putting her to sleep, she started to scratch again until I saw the tiniest speck of blood.
I decided to apply calamine lotion and she stopped for a few minutes. Just as I was ready to sleep, she started scratching again. I took pity on her because she was obviously sleepy but for some reason could not just stop scratching. Despite the fact that my eyes were so ready to shut for the night, I changed our beddings and applied a thick coat of Caladryl. I was not sure if it did the trick but Leia slept after an hour. The same thing happened the following night - Leia was in a scratching frenzy again. I was now worried because evening baths are a part of her evening ritual and I apply baby lotion on her after. There were no mosquitoes or ants on our bed.

Early the next morning I decided to text my cousin who is a pediatrician in Zamboanga. She's always my first option before heading to Leia's pedia Doc Jack. I told her that Leia's scratching was worrying me and making me lose sleep. There were also scars on her arms and legs, people might think I was being a bad mama! She asked if there were rashes on her skin and I said no which made me wonder why she was constantly scratcing herself. Ate Lulung suggested that I buy Cetaphil Restoraderm Lotion with the warning that it's a little expensive but is really effective. Off I went to the nearest Mercury Drug. I almost fainted when the pharmacy assistant informed me it's Php 1,350 for a 295ml bottle!!! Yikes!!! I knew it was expensive but never expected it to be this expensive!!! I decided to buy it anyway. Really, no parent can afford to deprive his or her little one's needs.

When I got home, I immediately gave Leia a bath and applied the lotion before dressing her. The lotion is fragrance-free, as most if not all Cetaphil products are. It's formulated for dry, itchy skin with a long lasting relief on skin. According to Cetaphil's website, Restoraderm Skin Restoring Moisturizer is "developed to help replenish and protect the skin’s natural moisture barrier, this nourishing moisturizer offers gentle yet effective hydration for dry, itchy skin. Cetaphil® RESTORADERM® Skin Restoring Moisturizer is easily-absorbed and is for anyone three months of age and older ... it helps repair the skin’s barrier as part of a dermatologist-recommended, daily skin care routine". The Restoraderm line is different and more specialized from their regular products hence it was more pricey.

The relief was instant on Leia's skin! That night after I applied the lotion on her, she went to sleep without scratching! After week, her skin became softer and more supple which is just a bonus. Now, whenever I see her starting to scratch I would dab a small amount on her skin and itchiness is gone in seconds. For parents out there, Ina-Tay gives Cetaphil Restoraderm Skin Restoring Moisturizer two thumbs-up for it's effectiveness especially for babies' sensitive skin.

With a product this good, my money was well spent!
