"Miss Mama"

"The world is full of women blindsided by the unceasing demands of motherhood, still flabbergasted by how a job can be terrific and tortuous." - Anna Quindlen

Ina-Tay and the love of her life one fine night...
I arrived yesterday afternoon in Davao for my weekend break - tired, hungry and disappointed. When I got home, Leia hasn't waken up from her nap so I took a quick lunch and in between mouthfuls explained to Mum why I haven't received my first paycheck. I was in my nega mode when my daughter showed up in the kitchen and gave me the smile that melted my heart and forgot the fact that my salary has been delayed for two weeks now.

An Ode to Mum

This post is way, way overdue but with a valid reason. I have been swamped at work and I avoid using my company-issued laptop for blogging. Since my 31-year old Ina-Tay back can only accommodate the weight of one laptop, I had to leave my old but very reliable personal laptop at home. Hence the delay.

WE ARE FAMILY! Ina-Tay (pardon my eye bags; this was after Christmas), Mummy, Ton-ton and baby Leia
Without much ado, I want to greet my female parental unit aka Mummy, a very happy birthday. Sorry that I haven't taken you to some fancy dinner because I've not been paid yet. But a certain portion of my paycheck is earmarked for the delayed birthday dinner and a little something for you.

On Packing

It's pst midnight and the closest thing to packing that I've done was to take out the trolley.

Yes, I'll be travelling again from the land of promise to Manny Pacquiao's birthplace. This is my 5th week in my new work which is based in GenSan but I'm just too lazy to pack tonight. Chances are I'll be cramming after posting this. :) My bad!

It'll be another week for me away from my daughter and another five days of no blogging. Well, we have to sink or swim. I reckon, I'm still blessed to have a job that makes use of the college degree. I'm in a far better position than those who have to leave the country to work.

Have a good week my dear readers, let's remember that a lot of people out there would kill just to have a job.

The One That Got Away

For maximum impact, may I suggest that you listen to Lou Pardini's Always Be There For You while reading this post. :)

I'm not on a dating frenzy, it just so happened that last week I accepted a date from a former colleague Mr. Suave and from Monday afternoon until Thursday noon, I was in the jungle that is Makati on official business. Since the meetings and dinner meetings ended by 8:00 pm, I have enough time to touch base with old friends which I did. Top of the list was my ex turned really good friend Mel.

Me NO Love Guru

"The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers." -M. Scott Peck
Few weeks ago I found myself in a very uncomfortable situation. A friend from high school sent me a text message to share her marital problems. I empathized with her thinking that all she wanted was someone to talk to and unload some of her emotional baggage. After a few exchanges, she then asked me, "please advise me what to do." Yikes! I paced to and fro hoping that I could think of a clever way to tell her without sounding aloof that she made a dumb choice to ask for my two-cents on her marriage. I would rather choose solving an algaebric equation then than to pretend and give her an advice that could spell doom for her already troubled life.

Sir Nonoy - My Teacher, My Hero

This post is in celebration of Teachers' Month (September 5 -October 5). UNESCO in 1993, inaugurated World Teachers' Day to celebrate, who else, teachers and their most important role to guide young and old alike in the life-long learning process.

This may sound cliche but I owe huge part of who I am today to my teachers. My view on things were in part influenced by these selfless individuals who imparted their knowledge to all of us - in the name of service and sheer love of teaching. I'm writing this short but sincere post straight from my Ina-Tay heart way before October 5th, for the fear that I might get too busy and completely forget.

A Week's Worth of Musings

Hello to all of you amazing people who read my blogs! :) I'm back again from a week of work and new learnings. I've been itching to write a blog post this week but the wifi in my hotel room was not working. I thought the problem was the HP ProBook 6450 issued to me by the company but after I went down to the front desk and complained (in my pajamas!), I discovered that other guests also weren't able to connect to their wifi. Attention Sun City Suites in GenSan! I suggest getting an IT person to check your connection, restarting your router obviously is not the solution!

Anyways, my week has been pretty hectic given that I'm still learning the ropes and deepening my knowledge of the firm. This one year contract has so far brought me to places some I've never even heard of. My colleagues also helped me so much and I thank them for shedding light to all my questions. From my former turned current boss D'Arcy - asking is not a sign of weakness; rather it is an indication of your willingness to learn.
